Windows Media Converter

The Windows Media converter supports Windows Media Video versions 7 and 8. Version 8 is the default, and is playable on any stock Windows XP or newer system. Windows Media Audio encoding is not supported.

Windows Media Video 9 is available on Windows operating systems with the Windows Media Encoder 9 Series installed. Only local files in DirectShow-compatible formats can be converted to Windows Media 9 format. See the Frequently Asked Questions page for more information.

Note: Do not rely on youtube2mp3 for compatibility with Windows Movie Maker.
